How it Works:

  • The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by using different wavelengths of light to target specific pigment irregularities in the skin.
  • This treatment works great for dark spots (sun spots, age spots, liver spots), unsightly small veins, rosacea, melasma, and uneven pigmentation.

What to Expect During Your Treatment:

  • Most patients describe IPL as a “hot pinch”, “snapping”, or “a sunburn” feeling.
  • Your provider will prescribe medication to help make you feel more comfortable during the treatment.
  • Treatment time varies from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on size of treatment area.

What to Expect After Your Treatment:

  • After the treatment you may experience redness and possible pinpoint bruising for approximately 1-4 days.
  • Your dark spots will first appear darker, and then will slough off within the next week.
  • You can return to work/normal activities immediately following your treatment.
  • Makeup can be worn immediately following the treatment as long as the area is not tender.

Ideal Number of Treatments:

  • Most patients see results after one treatment; however, maximum benefit usually varies from 3-5 treatments. We recommend having treatments every 4-6 weeks until desired results are achieved. Some patients may want maintenance treatments one to two times per year.
